Web-assisted early look at the 2009 V-Max
Since the very first Yamaha V-Max was introduced way back in 1984, the motorcycle scene has seen countless changes. The V-Max, though, has remained steadfast in its ways, surviving right on through the break off of Star Motorcycles from its Yamaha parent. A look at Star Motorcycle's current website shows a V-Max from 2007 that is almost exactly the same as the first edition was all those years ago. That will soon change. Although the official unveiling of the machine that started the muscle-bike category is still a week or so away, the internet has struck out with a few early shots of the new 2009 Max. Early specifications point to around 210 horsepower from a new 1800cc V-Four engine, which ought to have no problem establishing Mr. Max as the new quarter mile king. Just how quick will the new V-Max be? We, along with just about everybody else, predict a trip down the 1320 to take a little over nine seconds. Yeah, it'll be the new bike to be seen on.
The Perfect Porridge: 2009 Husqvarna TE 310
Last week in Barcelona, Husqvarna introduced a new displacement to
its line of enduro machines. The 2009 TE 310 features a bored out 250
(from 76mm to 83mm) engine that Husky hopes many consumers have been
waiting for. In fact, several after-market kits will take your 250cc
four-stroke motocross or off-road machine to roughly 310cc, because
many riders (particularly, amateurs) feel this is the ideal combination
of the light, tossable 250 with the added torque of a bigger bike.
The new 310 will have a lighter chassis, and other changes that will be
shared with various 2009 model Husqvarnas. We will provide more details
when they are available.
2009 Buell Blast
2009 Blast® Overview
The Buell Blast is a motorcycle any rider will enjoy. This lightweight single inspires confidence in beginners, yet offers enough power and refined agility to satisfy the performance expectations of the most experienced motorcyclist. Easy to own and maintain - and easy on fuel at 68 miles per gallon - the Buell Blast is a fun and economical way to get around town or down the highway.
Built for the Real World
The Blast is powered by a reliable, 492cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 34 horsepower and offers a broad powerband for easy starts and brisk acceleration, and ample power for highway riding. The muffler is located below the engine to promote a low center of gravity and keep the exhaust away from the legs of the rider and passenger.
BMW Outlines a New Reality for its Two Brands: BMW and Husqvarna
In a speech given in Munich earlier today, new BMW Motorrad President Hendrik von Kuenheim described the ambitious goals of his company with two distinct brands, including BMW and Husqvarna. Although the occasion was the unveiling of a prototype of BMW's superbike racer (pictured throughout this article), which will enter competition next year, von Kuenheim described the goals of BMW Motorrad as a whole for the next few years.
Although the entire speech is presented below (and it is worth reading), here are the highlights.

2010 BMW K 1200 GT
Introducing the new K 1200 GT, BMW Motorrad is strengthening its worldwide market leadership in the tourer segment and gaining an even greater lead in the market. Following the success of the former model bearing the same name, the new K 1200 GT opens up new dimensions in riding dynamics and long-distance qualities, once again proving the outstanding skills and competence of the white-and-blue marque.
A special feature of the K 1200 GT is that this new machine does not require the slightest compromise, but rather overcomes the apparent contradiction between superior sportiness and a high standard of touring comfort.
2009 BMW F800S Stunt
SPECTACULAR ARTISTY ON THE NEW BMW F 800 S
Stunt world champion Christian Pfeiffer rides the new 2-cylinder model.
The former stunt world champion Christian Pfeiffer presents his breathtaking motorcycling tricks on the new BMW F 800 S this year. Even in test rides with prototypes last year, Chris Pfeiffer was instantly taken with the playful agility and perfect engine characteristics of the brand new BMW 2-cylinder. BMW Motorrad was happy to oblige when Pfeiffer requested an F 800 as his new "working tool" at the very start of the freestyle season and well before the start of delivery to customers. Christian Pfeiffer was provided with a pre-series model which he modified accordingly.
The new motorcycle came through its baptism of fire in February at the "Stunt Wars" in sunny Florida with flying colours. "Stunt Wars" is the biggest freestyle motorcycle competition in the US and is regarded by pros as the unofficial world championship. 35-year-old Pfeiffer won hands down against the best stunt professionals in the world, with free-hand wheelie circles followed by a 230° turn for example - a feat never seen before. The modified F 800 S was the only 2-cylinder machine in the field - most of the competition used 4-cylinder bikes.
2010 Suzuki Hayabusa GSX1300R
2010 Suzuki Hayabusa GSX1300R
Ever since we introduced the Suzuki Hayabusa, it's had only one competitor: Itself. That's why the new 2010 Hayabusa is so impressive - compared to the original, it's hotter than ever. For enthusiasts, that comparison will make your heart pound. The new Hayabusa's engine is thoroughly updated for more power and an improved power-to-weight ratio, which you'll experience as an even greater rush of acceleration. Its refined chassis and suspension help provide crisper handling. And its striking new fairing offers sleeker aerodynamics. The original Hayabusa was the best. With the 2010 Hayabusa, you're looking at better than the best.
2010 Yamaha WR250X
The 2010 Yamaha WR250X is not just a dressed up dual sport machine. The all new WR250X is the real deal... a 250cc machine capable of competing in Supermoto events right out of the box. Super agile handling, 17 inch wheels, and an amazing fuel injected engine package, the new "X" model is ready to provide an unmatched level of riding performance and excitement. And with head turning looks, the fun factor will be right off the scale.
This supermoto-inspired bike is built for riders who spend more time on paved surfaces, not that the occassional dirt road is going to slow anybody donw much. Directly descended from our YZ and WR off-road machines, the WR250X makes Yamaha's off-road prowess street accessible.
The all new WR250X … one look tells you this is a machine ready to deliver some serious fun.
wo 70-year-olds on 5,440km trip on Piaggio MP3 scooters 2009
Two 70-year-olds have recently set out to ride the 5,440km Lincoln Highway in the US. On scooters. The duo started off from San Francisco's Lincoln Park on the 13th of June, and their ride will conclude at the Times Square in New York city, on the 14th of July.
Riding 2009-model Piaggio MP3 500 scooters, Bob Chase and Bernard ‘Buddy’ Rosenbaum want to challenge the notion that older people cannot (or should not) ride bikes. ‘Getting older shouldn't keep you from doing the things you really love,’ says 71-year old Buddy. ‘Bob and I have spent the past few decades on two wheels, exploring every corner of the globe, and we plan to spend the next few doing exactly that, but on three wheels,’ he adds.
Honda DN-01: Riding the scooter-motorcycle hybrid
It barely looks like a motorcycle at all, and while the DN-01 may be Honda’s vision of what motorcycles will become, it most certainly isn’t ours. Still, just how good (or not…) is this scooter-motorcycle hybrid when it comes to the actual riding part? The men at Motociclismo recently had a go, and here’s what they had to say about the Honda DN-01:
A few weeks ago, we said the CB1000R seemed to have been taken from a comic strip. Now, with the DN-01, we have a machine that far exceeds anything that can be said about Honda’s other bikes. The DN-01 is not just different – it’s created an altogether new category of motorcycle.
Gilera GP850 Corsa shown at the EICMA
Starting with the Gilera GP800, already one of the funkiest, fastest scooters around, the Piaggio Group added more style, Öhlins fork and Serie Oro Brembo brakes with radial-mount four-piston callipers, to create the Gilera GP850 Corse. With this new, special-edition scooter, Gilera are celebrating 100 years of operations and the 250cc GP racing world championship title won this year by Marco Simoncelli.
Malaguti Phantom F12R Bayliss Limited Edition
Every year, Malaguti launch these very cool looking racer-rep scooters and this year’s offering is the Phantom F12R Bayliss Limited Edition, built to celebrate Troy Bayliss’ last world championship victory in World Superbikes. With its 50cc liquid-cooled engine, multifunction dashboard with digital LCD display, CVT transmission and 13-inch wheels shod with fat, sticky tyres, we guess this scooter would be a dream come true for 16-year-olds. For the slightly more elderly, here's a riding impression of Bayliss' championship winning Ducati 1098R...\\
2009 BMW HP2 Sport: The 2009 BMW HP2 Sport - the one BMW that isn't scared of GSX-Rs!
pictures of the bike. This bike, along with BMW’s decision to go racing in World Superbikes in 2009 (with an all-new four-cylinder machine…), shows just how serious the Bavarian company is about taking on the R1s and GSX-Rs of this world.
As is already known, the BMW HP2 Sport is based on the BMW R1200S, though in the former, the boxer twin gets new cylinder heads, with double overhead cams and bigger valves. Along with its new forged pistons, new con-rods, and new stainless steel exhaust system, the 1170cc twin makes a respectable 130 – 140 horsepower and 115Nm of torque.
The HP2 Sport gets a six-speed close-ratio gearbox, and there’s also a quickshifter there to keep racer-types happy. Other fancy bits are Öhlins suspension, forged wheels, various carbonfibre parts, Brembo monoblock brakes with radially mounted four-piston calipers at the front, and a MotoGP-style digital dashboard. ABS is optional.
With this all-singing, all-dancing HP2 Sport, BMW should indeed be able to make people – especially the Japanese and Italian factories – sit up and take note. Yes sir, BMW are back, and how!

Wakan 1640 - New French V-Twin Motorcycle
The Wakan 1640 starts with a single spine oil carrying frame, a 54 inch wheelbase, with inverted Ceriani forks mounted at 22 degrees. Power comes from a 100 cubic inch S&S V-Twin producing 115hp and 115 foot pounds of torque and those horses are moving a motorcycle that weighs only 390 pounds with oil, no fuel. The engine sports a single Keihin flatslide carb that gets ram air through a blower type scoop situated above the airbox cover. The fuel tank is below the seat, molded to double as a sort of rear mudguard with the filler mounted on the tailsection.
D1200R - BMW Based Concept Motorcycle
The year long project began with a BMW R1200R fitted with sensors and taken to the track where a great deal of performance data was gathered. Then the motorcycle was disassembled, extensive measurements were taken, entered into the computer and the redesign began.
The design started with pencil sketches, progressed to Photoshop and finally took shape in CAD and 3D modeling software. The design data was then used for the machining necessary to create the parts. Assembly surprises were limited due to the careful design work and after the motorcycle was complete, it was taken back to the track where the initial data was gathered and performance was compared with favorable results. Some areas for improvement were noted and some revisions will be incorporated as work continues
Royal Enfield V-Twin - The Musket
What you see here is a 700cc Royal Enfield V-Twin constructed using two 350cc top ends. The whole bike appears to have come from the factory, or maybe the “special vehicle operations” section, instead of the mind and work of a creative and determined owner. Aniket Vardhan, the builder, still wants to come up with a better exhaust arrangement, than short open pipes, but already, the bike looks fantastic. Aniket calls the 700cc Enfield V twin, “The Musket”, to keep the vintage gun (ala Bullet) reference alive. This is very impressive work. I have to admit, when I watched the videos at the end of this post, I just started smiling and kept smiling all the way through. I really like this bike!
Brock's 4-2-1 Sidewinder-Hayabusa
4-2-1 Sidewinder-Hayabusa (1999-2005) Brocks Performance Products proudly announces our 4-2-1 © Sidewinder Exhaust Package for the 99-05 Hayabusa . The Best of the Best Drag Race Exhaust System Available for Modern Sport Bikes. Uniquely constructed of an aerospace quality ultra-light weight stainless steel in a FOUR into TWO into ONE configuration for a smooth torque curve with a megaphone induced peak power punch! We have combined our knowledge gained over the years racing our hard launching StreetSmart Systems with a purpose built Race Megaphone. A removable 2 ¼ outlet Billet Aluminum/stainless steel/fiberglass constructed baffle is included. As usual, our oversize tube design (Tapered 1 ¾ primaries meet DUAL 2 secondary pipes which merge into a velocity enhanced 2 ¼ collector) complements the ram air efficiency of the mighty Hayabusa. BIG engines and Nitrous bikes LOVE additional pipe volume. But, the tapered head pipes prevent lost bottom end power for a hard launch and maximum acceleration, even with a stock engine. The entire 4-2-1 Sidewinder system weight in race trim (no baffle) is a mere 7 ½ lbs&.baffle installed is two lbs heavier with little or no performance decrease in applications under 200 HP. Ground clearance is at a maximum when using a Brocks Performance Billet oil pan: http://stores.skipjack.com/brockracing/Detail.bok?no=174 The system is spring mounted for easy removal in race maintenance situations which also makes oil filter replacement a breeze. As an added bonus&the STOCK OIL COOLER can also be retained or bypassed with the kit included with the system. Added to all these features is a high luster show polish and our sweet looking Brocks Performance by Hindle logo plate: http://stores.skipjack.com/brockracing/Detail.bok?no=164 &&we think that about covers it?! Special Note: Fairing modifications are required. A cut-out template is included. The 4-2-1 Sidewinder is purpose built FULL RACE exhaust system designed for closed course competition use only. Right hand cornering clearance is limited&.as a result street use is NOT RECOMMENDED (see our Street Megaphone System: http://stores.skipjack.com/brockracing/Detail.bok?no=116 ) Also note: the factory P.A.I.R. valve/pump must be removed from the front of the engine. See our PAIR removal kit: http://stores.skipjack.com/brockracing/Detail.bok?no=60 The 4-2-1 Sidewinder system is a joint effort between Brock Davidson Enterprises and Hindle Manufacturing of Canada. This partnership combines Hindle's renowned handcrafted quality with Davidson's 20 of years sportbike drag racing experience. Davidson personally designed and hand-tuned the system specifically for the Hayabusa street bike owner who frequents the drag strip or is particularly interested in arm-straightening acceleration from a dead stop or slow roll and wants to make sure they have the fastest bike out there. Includes: Detailed exhaust system installation instructions Suggested air box modification instructions Dynojet Power Commander TRACK maps (These allow the bike to accelerate harder in the real world!) for your specific application Dyno maps are available upon request...if impressing your buddies is important to you. Brock's Performance Technical Assistance & Custom baseline maps for modified engine applications is also included-FREE! (Private) StreetSmart Owners Section:...it is ALSO FREE with Your StreetSmart purchase. This area in the Brock's Performance Information http://www.brockracing.com/forum/display_forum_topics.asp?ForumID=20 exists for a single reason....To help YOU make your bike (and yourself!) as fast as possible. If we learn a new trick or technique (which technology allows us to do frequently)...it doesn't do us any good to keep it to ourselves. We want you to be FASTER than anyone you race who does not have a Brock's Performance Exhaust System. We also don't want you to follow a path to poor performance by following the advice of others who might not know as much as us... Sales pitches...know it all friends...internet yammering...what ever! If something works, we tell you. If it doesn't work...we tell you that also. It is not about money for us. We know what we sell works a good as Brock personally knows how to make it work! We also know that one poor product or idea added to our known good combination can make OUR products look bad! Retail Price 1099.00
Kawasaki Z1300 Custom2009
classic market but another inline 6 you don’t see very often is the Kawasaki Z1300. Not only is it less common, when is the last time you saw one that’s gone the custom route, wide rear tire and all?
Mark Foulkes from sunny South Africa has been working on his big Z, vintage 1979, and sent along a few photos to show it off. I just thought it looked pretty cool. Yes, I know, the 330 rear tire isn’t going to make this a corner carver but no on ever said these Kawasakis were sport bikes to begin with.
Nice bike. Thanks, Mark!
The SAGA BIKE
Designer: Paul Yang and Larry Nagel
Status : Project Motorcycle
Credibility: It was a first time project, which only took seven months for completion
Paul Yang wasn’t a designer by profession and he merely fluked it to join hands with the famous Larry Nagel but the amateur status of Paul did not prove to be a hindrance by any means. Indeed, a first time project bike conventionally takes 18 to 24 months for completion and these two managed to produce a moving guzzler mere seven months which talks highly about the efficiency and dedication of this Duo .

There’s nothing like the rush of wind pressing against your body, riding 100+ miles per hour with your legs wrapped around a heavy duty machine. The rumble of its engine shakes waves of pleasure up your spine, accompanied by a roaring burst of exhaust. But Honda, along with many other top motorbike specialists, plan on introducing electric cruisers and sports bikes to their line up by the end of this decade. The question is, would any self respecting motorcycle enthusiasts ride one?

Tokyo Motor Show - Honda Concept Bike 2009
The Honda DN-01 pictured is one of the most interesting. Perhaps another hybridization of motorcycles and scooters, the DN-01 is very special.
The scooter aspects include the ergonomics (the low seating position ), the use of floorboards, and the automatic transmission.
Infinitely Variable HFT Transmission Delivers a Revolutionary Riding Feel.
This new-generation infinitely variable transmission delivers superb throttle response and stepless shifting, with no mid-corner shifting shocks. Riders can select from three shifting modes: Drive Mode, Sports Mode and 6-Speed Manual Mode. Moreover, the HFT offers the world's first* lock-up mechanism in an infinitely variable, hydraulic mechanical transmission. Powered by a 680cc V-twin engine, this machine realizes novel levels of comfort and sportiness.
For those of you who have not ridden a large displacement scooter, the lower center of gravity created by placing the rider lower in the frame offers some significant handling benefits -- potentially, even for a sports bike. Note that the ground clearance on the DN-01 concept appears quite generous. This could be a canyon carver, as much as a cruiser.

Honda CBR 954 RR
Ok, some of you may be wondering why the 2002 Honda CBR 954 RR is one of the first few bikes featured - it was first released 5 years ago! Well, I think the Honda CBR 954 RR Fireblade is one of the sexiest bikes ever. Not only that, it runs like a dream.
In Singapore, you’ll be lucky if you can find someone selling this bike second hand - no one wants to get rid of the 2002 Honda CBR 954 RR Fireblade…
Here’s the beauty now…
